Our client is a growing small-to-medium-sized Design & Build (D&B) construction company with a current turnover of £15 million, aiming to sustain this level for the next three years before scaling up to £25 million. The company has successfully delivered projects with a largest turnover of £7 million and is currently tendering for a £7 million project converting an existing building into 27 apartments in Kings Cross. They typically manage a portfolio that includes:
• 2 x £5 million projects
• 6 to 8 projects in the £1-£2 million range
• 6 to 8 smaller projects valued between £300k and £1 million
With 30% of their work secured through letters of intent and the remainder under JCT contracts, they have a robust pipeline of work and ambitious growth plans.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to join our client's growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, specifically within the construction sector, and should have previous experience or understanding of Quantity Surveying, as this will be a key aspect of the role.
As Project Manager, you will take the lead in managing multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget, while maintaining the high quality expected by the client. You will have a key role in helping the company achieve its growth targets, while efficiently overseeing a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging in size and complexity.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple construction projects, ranging from £300k to £7 million.
Lead the £7 million Kings Cross project, converting an existing building into 27 apartments.
Ensure project delivery is on time, within budget, and meets contractual and quality standards.
Work closely with Quantity Surveyors to monitor and control costs, making sure financial and operational goals are met.
Handle contract administration, including JCT contracts and letters of intent.
Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project progression and resolve any issues or delays.
Report regularly to senior management on project progress, risks, and opportunities.
Help the company expand its project portfolio in line with its strategic growth plans.
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience as a Project Manager in the construction industry, with hands-on management of projects in the £300k - £7 million range.
Strong background in Quantity Surveying or significant experience working closely with QS teams.
Familiarity with JCT contracts and letters of intent.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team of contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality results under pressure.
Strong budgeting, cost control, and financial acumen.
Relevant construction qualifications (e.g., Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or similar) preferred.
Familiarity with health and safety regulations and construction best practices.
